President's Report - December 2012
“Vice Pres. & mystery man, Larry Chvatal, in his continuing efforts to keep the mind numbing machinations of the "dash for cash" safely veiled, has wisely elected to redo, reset, & reconfigure the rules for 2013. This should be a serious plus as it wouldn't be nearly as much fun if you knew what the heck was going on.”
As we enter the last month of 2012 I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and have recovered from eating too much. There are several things I would like to mention.
First, is that the golf division business plan has now been passed by the City Council. There were some minor adjustments, mostly in wording that have no effect upon us. But, one major change is that the Golf Advisory Committee that many of us fought for was severely altered by one council member. It was requested and passed that the committee be via council/mayor appointment. Thus, it becomes a political committee that (in my mind) becomes appointments as favors for election support. It well may be made of members that are not closely connected to what really needs to be discussed. Hopefully I'm wrong.
Second, we need to get more members involved in playing our tournaments. We have many members that support us, but would love to have them enter events. It makes the events more fun, more competitive, increases pay-outs and lets you get to meet other members and make new friends. Entries have been down in the last month and we have to turn in unused tee times. At, least we do not have to turn in times until 3 days before the event and not 7 days requested. We are also holding a member/guest event on the December 19th tournament. Try to bring a friend to play, meet members and hopefully join our club. This should also help fill the tee sheet. We will hold more of these in the future. This month is also the 4th Hansen memorial Tournament. Low net winner will be engraved on the award. Dick Hansen was club president for many years and captain of the senior team. The first round of golf I ever played was with Dick.
Our 2013 schedule is having some tweaks, due to the city's maintaince schedule and the revised dates will be posted soon. We have also been approached by the woman's club to hold a joint tournament on July 3rd. It has been approved and is on the city calendar. Could be interesting and fun. I would also remind everyone that if you can't make a tournament please notify the tournament director the night before the event, if not earlier. Saves us a lot of grief with the city.
Our December meeting is on the 4th at 6:30 PM. This is our annual give-a-way and Jeff Middlebrook is working hard on getting goodies to give away. Open to all club members, but you must be present to win. This meeting is also election night for the 2013 officers and board. Nominations are open and we would love to have those that are interested throw their hat into the ring.
We have had a very positive 2012, with membership the highest in the past 4-5 years and hopefully we will continue to grow. You will be amazed at the amount of money we have paid out to members this past year and the large number that have made far more than the cost of membership. The bigger we can get, the better our tournaments are and the more we have to give away.
I want to thank each of you for your support to the club and officers this past year. It is truly appreciated. In the mean time - GRIP IT & RIP IT!
