Tinsley sizzles - Young makes good work of retirement in 1st Wednesday event.
1st event of 2014 dawned with cool foggy weather that had guys grabbing their slightly used Christmas sweaters at the start of the round. That didn't last long as Joe Tinsley warmed up the weather and lifted the fog in record time. The club champ holed seven birdies to go with a lone bogie to post a 66 in his 4 shot win! Jason Fry had a great 2 under 70 but simply couldn't keep pace in the opener. How low was the scoring in the 1st flight you ask? Tom Woliver shot a 71 and was relegated to the net division and he didn't even win that division! The back nine holes surrender to the field as Tinsley scored 33, Fry 34, and our new net player Woliver recorded a 32. Great playing guys!
Charles Young finally quit playing with his toy trains, started playing golf on a regular basis, and scored a big win today with a net 64. Charles blew away the 3rd flight with a 5 shot victory over Bill Middlebrook. By the way, the train comment comes from the fact that Charles was director of the toy train museum in Balboa Park for around 30 years and recently retired. He joined our merry band about 7 months ago and his progress is really starting to show. Congrats Chas!
And now a little story about relationships:
I was on #1 green yesterday in the group right behind our beloved Tom "the assassin" Creamer. Their group had left and headed for tee #2. As I leaned over to putt, a cart suddenly came bolting down the 18th fairway then cutting in front of #1 green. It was "the assassin", pedal to the metal, streaking over to #2. After the round I had to know if he was lost, had a lapse of memory as to the location of the 2nd tee box, or was just harassing our group. Our group, thinking he had lost his way, started to collect money to buy him a Garmon. After the round I found that Tom has a special relationship. When he went to breakfast prior to the round he took his favorite club with him. The boys say he likes this club so much he doesn't let it out of his sight. After finishing up in Toby's, Tom left his special "friend" behind and when he finished hole #1 he had went to retrieve it. When all was done "the assassin" as usual finished again in the money. This could be a sign! So in the future when you see me having lunch with my driver at my side you will now know: THE REST OF THE STORY
