Mark Demmitt posts 1st win in Wednesday Modified Event

Mark Demmitt is starting to get the hills, valleys, green breaks, and odd bounces figured out when playing on the Balboa links. He parlayed that knowledge into his first victory of the year by winning the net division in flight three. The first year member posted a 53.6 net which bested Ed Horbett by 1 shot. Charlie Chance took down the gross in the same flight with a 65 that included a double bogie on one of the par 5's. Well done boys.
Andy Nathan got it done in Flight #2 by squeezing out a win by 4 tenths of a shot over tournament director Peter Berk. Gale Van Nostern destroyed the same flight with a 61 for a 7 shot victory in the gross division. Little Joey Tinsley snookered Woliver for the gross win in flight #1 with a 55 over Toms 57. John Sewell grabbed the net in the same flight with Mike Genovese in the runner-up spot.
It actually looked like a NFL injury list with all the walking wounded on hand for the event. First up was Al Bruton, wheelchair and all, on hand to cheer on the finishers. Not to be outdone was Freddie Tooze. Fred took a header down the stairs at the club a month ago and is still suffering from the effects of a concussion. He placed 4th but with all those cobwebs up stairs it could take a couple of weeks before he finds out. Topping it off was Jack Hamlin twisting his ankle on hole #5 but also finishing in the money. What's that old saying......No pain-No Gain!
