Brett Chase "punks" his flight for win in Wednesday July 27th Individual

A nice front coupled with a torrid back nine (39) powered Brett Chase to the top gross position, his first win of the year, in the second flight. He was so... close to breaking into the magical seventies if not for a couple of putts, right on line, just short. It's a good thing he buckled down on the final nine cause Ted Hynes was in the early lead with a 39 on the front. Ted had a couple extra bogies on the back to finish with a 42 which was 1 back of Mr. Chase. With the gross title decided it was John Varner time for the net. The 3 time match play champ showed he could handle stroke play by pounding out a net 68 for a four shot victory over Bill Guetz. Tk Dobrynski continued his fine play as his 89 took the gross in flight #4. Tom Campbell challenged but was 2 shots short at 91. David Wageman did the damage in the net with a 92 that equaled a six under 66. It's a good thing he made his last putt as David Neer put up the exact same score but lost because of Wageman's better final nine. The 5th flight had Ben Burris finally getting his game back where it should be, winning the gross by 5 shots. Now that his swing is restored we can go back to calling him "Big Ben". Charles Young chased him to the finish for the second spot. Bill Middlebrook again upheld the family honor as he took victory by the largest margin of the day. His net win was by a whooping 10 blows after he put the LOWEST NET score of the day on the board, that being a 63! An overwhelmed Tom Donnellan got the runner-up prize at net 73. Other winners included club champ Woliver with gross in flight #1 after a 3 way card-off with the others at 71. John Hoffman lost that card-off but won the net. Rick Wentworth took gross in Flight #3 with Charlie Chance nabbing the net. ***Feel good story of the day*** Ollie Bagget returned to tournament play for the first time in more than 1/2 dozen years. What made him miss all those years was when the tournament start time on Wednesdays was changed from 9:00 am to 7:30 am. You see Ollie always would play toward the end of the event which gave he a tee time of around 10:30. So, what's the matter, was Ollie just a night owl that couldn't get up, did his better half tie him to the bed, or was he just lazy? No, none of those, you see Ollie works night and doesn't get out of the shop until 7:30 am. He used to go home take a nap and then come down and hook-up in the final group. The start time change killed that idea. Today, Ollie said to hell with sleep, showed up, teed off around 9:00 am, and was rewarded with 3rd in his flight. Well played Ollie! In spite of Mr Chavy's attempt to rain on my parade and my OB ball on 16, I am a happy camper. That was my best round since before my kids were born!
