“Why don't you keep your snoot out of it ironman, or meet me on the 9th green at 9 oclock on aug 9th - 9-9-9. Should I wear my best suit Mr. Cain? Or can I call you Herman?”
Talk about pressure, all alone from the red tees, three sets of eyes watching your ever move, it must be the annual firecracker scramble! It seems so easy but many a good player putted out only to see a double or even a triple go on the card. So who's play netted the rockets red glare and who ended up with a cherry bomb that was a "dud".
The mob group, headed up by Godfather Capers got it right all day long and exploded into first place. The team consisted of the "don" himself, plus his followers Barrons, Woliver, & Matthews. Their winning score was 12 under for a 132 total.
Andy Cochran (the 2003 club champ) returned to the club after a two year absence and lit up the course with all kinds of fireworks. Andy birdied three (6,10,14) of his five red holes to set his team up for the finish. Jim Allen, Al Bruton, and Larry Chvatal filled the scorecard with the rest of the needed pars to get the win.
Two team were demoted in the standings by tournament director, Big Steve Thoresen, for not following the required format that was printed on the rules sheet. If those teams need addition information, call Big Steve, not me! It is a lesson learned, always read the rule sheet before the start of each tournament round.
