The Godfather gets his pocket picked by the Gypsy. Chvatal wins Match Play Final!

The finals for the Club Match Play Championship hit the links this past Monday and Hedge "The Godfather" Capers had his organization ready, seconds in place, weapons concealed, and was on a mission from God. Hedge who made the finals for the second straight year this time had to deal with the lowly but tricky Gypsy in the form of Larry Chvatal. A classic matchup for the 2nd major club title of 2015. Chvatal got the early jump by winning holes 1 and 4 and taking that 2up lead to the 7th tee. Then Capers put in a charge winning hole 7 and a birdie on #8 squared the match. The boys charged on and Hedge got the advantage for the first time in the match with a win on the 10th to go 1up.. What looked promising was actually the end as Chvatal took #11 and #12 then stuffed a tee shot to 4 feet on #13 to get birdie and reverse the match with a 2 up lead. The rout continued as Larry took the 14th then finished it off with another close approach on #15 to complete the 4&3 victory. Capers had beaten Chvatal in the semi-finals last year but it was Chvatals turn to say "leave the gun, take the canoli" after his championship win. The 3rd & 4th place match pitted the young guns, Gregg Aubrey against Robert Rapista and this turned into a barroom brawl. Aubrey started with a hot putter, holing two long range bombs and commanded a 3 up lead after hole #5. Rapista stayed steady and by the turn had fought back to 2 down. The two traded hole wins and then Robert took #15 to cut Gregg's lead to 1 up. Both were in good shape on #16 after their second shots but Gregg's approach hit the right fringe and kicked left out of bounds. The match is now even and the players halved the #17 so up the 18th they go. Both had 5 feet for par and Rapista rammed his home first from under the hole. Aubrey, from the topside was looking for extra holes, but like the Buffalo Bills Scott Norwoods field goal attempt in the 1991 Super Bowl it tracked wide right and Rapista nabbed the extra cash. Random thoughts: **Only two players have made the finals twice, Hedge Capers and two time champ, John Varner.** **Robert Rapista took 3rd then jumped on a plane and will be playing the Plantation Course on Kapalua Hawaii this Friday. Told you he needed the extra cash.** **Over the last four years this tournament has only been won by mid handicapers (7 to 11 course strokes)** **44 guys were entered in the event and 22 made the money!!** Complete Playouts (Total purse $1485) 1....$240....Larry Chvatal (Match Play Champion) 2....$200....Hedge Capers 3....$175....Robert Rapista 4....$150....Gregg Aubrey 5.....$ 90....Tim Morgan 5.....$ 90....Tom Woliver 7.....$ 70....Russ Carlson 7.....$ 70....John Varner 9.....$ 45....Tim Nou 9.....$ 45....Steve Klein 9.....$ 45....Stuart Dodds 9.....$ 45....Tom Richardson 13...$ 25....Joe Tinsley 13...$ 25....Gary Matthews 13...$ 25....Tom Spencer 13...$ 25....Zack Nielson 17...$ 20....Larry Barron 17...$ 20....Chuck Lasher 17...$ 20....Rod Billingsley 17...$ 20....John Diehl 17...$ 20....Steve Falletta 17...$ 20....Mark McVeigh
