“Finally monsieur Roy speaks! Always remember that every time you look down at the sidewalk, the shadow of the gypsy will always be there waiting to pounce. Peligro! Peligro! Be on guard all you Balboa innocents! The Gypsy Palillo still lurks.”
Steady strong Kansas like winds greeted a full field of contestants in Wednesdays individual event. The winds were strong enough that several of us skinny guys had to load a couple rolls of quarters in our pockets just to stay anchored in place. Others had plenty of ballast. Don't worry, I'm no naming names, Roy. Derek Janicki didn't have any problems with shots blown off line as he carded a 68 net taking that title in flight #1. Gale Van Nostern did the same with a 69 net in Flight #2. Freddie Tooze was up to his old tricks putting a 90 gross on the card and "toozing" the field in Flight #4. Darlo Clemens and Bill Miller took the net and gross titles in the third flight.
Bill Middlebrook, who had pneumonia just 4 short weeks ago wasn't even scheduled to be playing the 18 hole course for another month. Two weeks ago he returned early and won the 2 man with son Jeff. Wednesday he goes out and rings up a 69 net and wins AGAIN in the 4th flight. I don't know about the rest of you guys desperate for a win but I'm thinking of injecting some scarlet fever and assorted flu viruses to see if that helps get a victory. If not we can always step up to a shot in ass of ebola. Come on guys a little illness worked for Bill so step up to the plate, cause no pain no gain.
Hard luck story of the day: After two years off with a shoulder injury, Jeff Harris returned and really had it going his way for most of the day. Oh but wait, there's still that 16th hole to play. Jeff had several canyon visits and like so many before him a 10 went on the card. After all that the 8 handicaper still shot 79 for a 71 net but lost the card off for the last money paying spot.
