Men & Womens Club Combined hits the links - Results
“Thank You, Larry, for carrying ole' uncle Roy for all 18 of historic Balboa's scenic but sometimes brutal landscape! As George Gobel liked to say: "Did you ever feel like a pair of BROWN SHOES in a TUXEDO shop?" Fortunately, some one called ahead and Carol had removed all sharp objects from my somewhat challenged reach. Thanks be to God though, I found the Gin!”
Peter Berk used this as an audition for his new position at match.com by pairing up the grizzly guys from the club with the good looking ladys from the womens club. Actually he just used a blind draw but it sounds better the other way. Seventeen teams hit the hollow grounds of the "Park" and in the end, everyone put some coin in their pockets. The format was the two men of each group played better ball while the women did the same. Both scores, net & gross, were added together to get a 36 hole score.
So which of the guys was on the same wave link as the gals. None other than that little charmer Bob Grassa, who with his partner Jim Allen posted a 8 over par gross to take the victory in flight #1. Steve Thoresen & Ray Prazen got in rhythm with the swing'in skirts in their group and took the net win with a 16 under in the same flight. Flight #2 saw Falletta and Horbett embrace their feminine side (not literally) to card a 122 net to reach the top step. The gross title went the Hedge "Godfather" Capers who recruit his first female mob members and then ordered them to steal the win with a 176 gross score. Capers played as a lone wolf (Hynes didn't show up - who would have predicted that) so after mob member Larry (Hitman) Barron choose the blind scorecard to use, the win was assured.
So how did Charlie Chance do in his favorite event of the year? Charlie usually is looking to place on a different scoreboard than the rest of the guys but lately he has been holed up on the ranch with his new girl and has become more domesticated than my two Shih Tzu puppies. But it wasn't a total loss, just think of the times you go fish'n, don't catch anything, and still have fun. Not a bad way to spend the day!
A big thank you should go out to the ladies for making this annual event one of the best events on the yearly schedule.
Since the men had a different prize pool than the guys, only the guys are being listed in the results:
