The first of the years majors (The Presidents Cup) went down to the final group to find a champion. First in hot seat was Tim Nou with a final round 69 net and 147 total. He was soon rousted out of the top spot as Tom Withers rang up a 68 net for a even par 144 total. Still to come was first round leader Al Bruton and a couple of others with a chance for the top spot. First sign of trouble was Al Bruton spotting driving up the 18th without playing. Seems like newly named Destroyer, only destroyed his back on the 16th and was out of the tournament. Back to being "The Hurt Locker" for Mr Bruton. The last group made the final climb up the 18th and it was Jeff Harris firing another 70 net for a 140 total to claim the Presidents Cup Championship. Jeff sporting a 8 handicap scored rounds of 78 both days to get his winning total. It's Harris's first major championship and he collects the champions cup, shirt, and a fist full of cash. With his championship purse of $175 plus two day money prizes, his total take for the two days was $210. Congrats Jeff on a job well done.
What happened to the other contenders on day #2? Tom Woliver, who was one back had to a little hazard problems on the front nine and the extra penalty strokes took him out of the mix. Defending Champ, Greg Gillespie was just so-so and never in the overall mix. 2014 Champ, Zach Manuel, had a little to much to drink on Friday night and his first round 104 doomed his finish. Both Kyle Hinsz and Sam Burt opened with 72's but faded at the finish.
Even though they weren't in the overall mix, Danny Allen and John Sewell won gross and net in Flight #2. In flight #3 it was Jim Tiensvold storming back on day #2 to win the gross award. Tom Withers who came so close to the overall did take top net in Flight #3.
